California High Speed Rail, Phase 1, Package 4

Project Location: Wasco, CA

Overview: It has pros and cons and controversy, but the California High Speed Rail (CAHSR) project marches on. Phase 1, divided into four construction Packages, will connect the northern and southern Central valley from Fresno to Bakersfield. LTC is proud to have been selected from among multiple bidders by Hayward Baker Inc. (now Keller North America) to perform all the BDSLT testing on this Package.

The project was scattered on three separate sites, two of which were adjacent to a very active freight rail line. LTC tested three shafts of varying depths and diameters. We also tested two of the test shafts laterally. From a technical perspective, all five tests were a success and gave the general contractor and engineer, California Rail Builders (a joint venture of Ferrovial-Agroman West, LLC and Griffith Company) and Amec-Foster Wheeler (now part of Wood PLC) respectively, valuable insight on the geotechnical characteristics of these relatively remote sites.
